The Cost of Creating a Wind Turbine

Posted by: admin In: Articles

Make power at home

So you are thinking about building a wind turbine to power your home, and you’re wondering if it is the most cost efficient way to go. Well, building a wind turbine is most certainly cheaper then purchasing one and it tends to pay for itself over time with the costs you’re cutting on electricity bills. What it boils down to for most is the simple question, is spending money now to save money in the long term what I want to do? For most the answer is yes, which is why building a wind turbine to power households has become increasingly popular during the last couple years.

So, what will you need to get started? Well, a workspace is key, most people use a garage or a basement which is free of cost. Otherwise you may after consider the cost of renting a work space which can vary a great deal. The next cost you will have to worry about the most primary aspect is the guide. You should probably be able to find a detailed instruction guide with illustrations at your local bookstore and if not most people buy them online this cost could vary usually between fifteen and fifty dollars depending on if you can find it discounted or not and where you’re purchasing from. Most people also need help, and while some people may have friends or family to help out for free if you want the extra convenience in most cases you’ll have to shell out a few bucks at least.

While most things can be generalized and the cost is going to be much cheaper then purchasing an already constructed version of the generator below is a small outline of some costs you may experience.

  • DC Motor – You need to purchase a DC motor that is capable of creating at least 1000 watts (w) of power. Most guides or manuals will include details on exactly what to use and some can even be shipped directly to your house, the average cost being about $30.00
  • Blades – You will want to purchase wood that is used for creating machines of this size when making the blades.

To create a 1000w wind generator the average cost can be about one hundred and fifty dollars, which considering the price of a new one already pre-built can be three thousand to ten thousand is not so bad at all. It will most likely save you that much on your electric bill the first couple of months anyway and is much more environmentally safe and leaves you feeling guilt free. Building a wind generator can also be a good opportunity for bonding, so if you know someone you think would like to help who you think you could spend a little more time with, get them involved and make the project a fun one not just something you have to do. Building a wind power machine can be confusing without the right guide, so make sure you do your research before choosing one.
